Paleo making it to Dr. OZ

Paleo Diet

 

Finally a nice segment on Dr. OZ for the Paleo diet/lifestyle. I’m personally glad to see this. Sadly it took Paleo making it to Dr. Oz for the disbelievers in my family and friends circle to finally accept that Paleo is not a crazy harebrained idea. Who knew that Dr. Oz spoke the gospel? Also looking at what I just typed why have I not added Paleo to my Firefox spellchecker, so long I’ve been looking at red squigglies every time I type Paleo o.O.

Anyways back to Dr. Oz,  Dr. Loren Cordain (author of The Paleo Diet) and Nell Stephenson (author of Paleoista) came on the show and presented the Paleo Diet in an awesome way as to not scare people off. Personally if it would have been me, Paleo might not have gotten so much attention, I’m too far into it, love my meat and my Bulletproof Coffee. Couldn’t you just see that “OMG America put grassfed butter in your coffee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” Yeah I don’t see that one going over too well with most people just looking into the diet either.  Hey but if you’re new to Paleo and just looking around……… Seriously………. TRY IT!

I found this segment to be a nice basic refresher for anyone that is already Paleo and a great introduction to anyone considering starting Paleo. You didn’t find gobs and gobs of bacon being shown (I’m not saying bacon is bad and a nono, don’t panic), and the emphasis on vegetables was a great reminder. I know myself I am guilty of having more meat and forgoing vegetables. Fruit was also included, which is something that seems to get tossed as people get more carbophobic when delving into the Paleo world.

So if you are just starting on Paleo, need more Paleo recipes, or want to brush up on your Paleo basics then definitely look into getting some books on paleo. Some of the best I’ve found for just starting out on the Paleo Diet are:

 

Practicle Paleo

Practical Paleo - I highly recommend this book, not only do you get a bunch of great Paleo recipes, you also      get multiple meal plans. Practical Paleo is a great begginers book, along with the above meal plans you get the hows and whys of the Paleo lifestyle and cool infographic guides such as a Fats & Oils Guide, Digestion Guide, Healing Leaky Gut Guide, even a Poop Guide (I know maybe TMI, but hey sometimes these things are good to know, not like you’re parents ever sat you down and explained your poop to you LOL) and you get many more helpful guides. I also recommend buying this off Amazon because it’s almost half the price as a bookstore.

 

The Paleo Solution

 

The Paleo Solution - By Robb Wolf. This is a great starter book too, The Paleo Solution will give you a great start at understanding the concept behind the Paleo diet. It’s a wonderful way to get you pumped to starting the Paleo Diet and looking forward to the benefits Paleo will provide to your health. The Paleo Solution also includes a 30 day meal plan to jump start you into Paleo.

 

 

 

 

The Primal Blueprint

 

The Primal Blueprint – Any of the books from Mark Sisson provide great information on the Primal Diet, which is almost the same as Paleo, there’s more of a difference of Primal not being just food you eat but “a broad, holistic approach to living and not simply a list for eating” (source). Any of the Primal books are great for beginners and for those already living the Paleo lifestyle but want to broaden the natural way of life into more parts of your daily life.  Marks books include: The Primal Blueprint, The Primal Connection, The Primal Blueprint 21-Day Total Body Transformation, The Primal Blueprint Cookbook, Primal Blueprint Quick & Easy Meals, and Primal Blueprint Healthy Sauces, Dressings & Toppings.
